3-Peat!!!

The Keweenaw Storm Girls 19U hockey club completed their MAHA State Championship 'hat trick' this past weekend by taking their 3rd consecutive state title.

The girls opened the tourney on Friday by defeating a familiar opponent, the Marquette Sentinals.  The Storm defeated Marquette by a 4-1 score.

On Saturday, the Storm gathered two big wins by pounding the Mt. Clemens Wolves 8-1 and the Michigan Ice Dogs 13-0.

The three wins put the Storm girls into the Championship game with a rematch against Marquette.  After only giving up 2 goals in their first three games, the ladies found themselves down 2-0 to Marquette in the all-or-nothing final.  The girls rallied for 3 straight goals to defeat Marquette for the second time of the tourney and take home the state championship.

The girls will head to warmer weather as they travel to San Jose, California on April 3-7 to contend for the national title.  Keep posted to this website for further details about the Storm.

Team players are:

Squirt AA Jr. Kings Capture NIHL Crown

The Jr. Kings Squirt AA team travelled to Sault Ste. Marie for the NIHL Playoffs this past weekend.  The squirts finished in second place during the regular season, 2 points behind Marquette.  The Jr. Kings would get thier revenge during the playoffs, as they went on to win 3 1-goal games in round robin play.  The squirts opened the tourney defeating the Soo 5-4 on Friday night.  They followed that up with a 1-0 shutout of Mackinaw City on Saturday morning.  To cap off the day, the Jr. Kings beat Marquette 2-1 to go into the Gold Medal game.

In the Gold Medal game, the Jr. Kings beat up on the Soo by a 5-1 score to take the crown for the weekend.  Congratulations to all players and coaches!!

2013 Ice Kings District Participants

Congratulations go out to the following Ice Kings teams for making the District 8 Playdowns over the next couple weekends:

Squirt B:  The River Valley Bank Squirt B team went to Iron River over the past weekend.  RVB went 3-0 in round-robin play, defeating Marquette 8-2 on Friday night, and besting Ironwood by a 6-3 score on Saturday morning.  On Saturday evening, RVB was already established as the #1 seed out of the American Division, and proved thier position by beating up on Iron River 9-5. The story changed on Sunday, as RVB played their semi-final game against Iron Mountain.  IM came out and took the win over RVB by a 7-2 score.  Iron Mountain would go on to win the District 8 Championship over Ironwood later in the day.

Pee-Wee B: The Lake Linden Lions Pee-Wee B team traveled to Munising for the District 8 Tournament on February 8-10. The Pee-Wees started out strong with 2 big wins in their first two games. The Lions defeated Newberry 11-4 on Friday, and started Saturday off with an 11-3 drubbing of Escanaba. In game 3 on Saturday afternoon, the Lions dropped their first game to the eventual tourney winner, DAHA. They lost by a 5-1 score. Going 2-1 in the Round Robin, the Lions advanced to the Semi-Finals on Sunday morning, where they played a familiar foe: CCJHA Tervo Agency. The Lions played a good game, but lost a heart-breaking 5-4 overtime game to Tervo. Tervo moved onto the final and got defeated by DAHA 8-4.

Bantam B:  The KML/Jilbert's Dairy Bantam B team traveled to Iron Mountain, and lost both of their games in the round robin play to CCJHA KRC 6-4 and to Newberry 8-4.  The nine team tournament format didn't allow for a chance on Sunday as they didn't earn the one runner up spot for the semi-finals either.  Iron Mountain eventually went on to defeat Ontonagon 7-0 in the Final game, and will be representing District 8 down in Big Rapids.

Midget BB:  Michigan State Police in Iron Range on Feb. 15-17
